I was used to walking two to three miles a day with my pups and my hubby and enjoying the beauty that is Florida. Then one day I struggled to just make it around the block while walking the pups, but I pushed through as I know they need their exercise. The pain started in my calf, moved to my hip, and now my lower back. I continued to push myself every morning to walk my normal route, but would get home and have to sit in order to relieve the pain. After much encouragement from Kit, I went to see the doctor and she thinks it may be Avascular Necrosis which is caused by the loss of the blood supply to the hip bone.I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome due to the lupus, that could be a cause. The doctor said it happens with lupus patients. I will need an MRI to confirm what damage has been done to the hip and then I may need a hip replacement. I am hoping to avoid surgery if I can.<br />
<br />
Another issue caused by lupus and hypothyroidism is Peripheral Neuropathy and I have been dealing with this in my right hand for years. The pain in my hand and in my leg wakes me up almost every night and just recently realized it is due to the lupus as well. The most recent flare has been one of the worst, but I am slowly feeling more like my old self again. When you are used to a certain amount of activity and all of sudden you can't move, it can be a bit depressing. I have even set aside my camera for awhile, but picked it back up today and feeling a renewed spirit. I will post more photos soon.<br />
<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

Over the past couple of months, I have been really disciplined in writing (for my short stories) about 750 to 1000 words a day. I have begun to relish getting my creative juices flowing. But, it seems like, every time I really become immersed in something I enjoy, an old friend comes to visit. Something similar took place several years ago when I was moving up the ranks in Tae Kwon Do, I succeeded all the way to a 2nd Senior Degree Black Belt and my 'friend' paid me a visit. Then a couple of years ago, I became a habitual jogger, setting my personal records, losing weight and preparing to run more competitively, and my old 'amigo' stopped by once again.<br />
<br />
It is almost as if, this 'companion' <u>extracts, special pleasure</u>, by waiting until I begin to achieve rewarding results before he swoops in to do his damned best at stomping all over my efforts. Who is this 'friend' that I speak of? He is not one, but two separate auto-immune diseases that reside within my body. These two '<b><i>partners in crime</i></b>' like to tag team me when I am at the peak of my game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-syBdOZ-MuOU/U_al9ISFgbI/AAAAAAAAAZA/JA4VFCmVsxc/s1600/ankylosing-spondylitis-300x191.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-syBdOZ-MuOU/U_al9ISFgbI/AAAAAAAAAZA/JA4VFCmVsxc/s1600/ankylosing-spondylitis-300x191.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These diseases go by the names of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (or AS). They are alike in the fact that they attack joints and connective tissues. RA isn't real particular about which joints it attacks, but AS is a specialist that attacks primarily the lower back, fusing the spine in place as it travels upward. In <b>severe</b> instances, it enjoys targeting the rib cage around the lungs, making it difficult to breath very deeply (<i>I am not at that point, yet</i>). When I was diagnosed with these conditions, in my mid-thirties, I genuinely believed that I could just push through the difficulties that would arise, when they arose. And, for a while, I am able to do, just that.<br />
<br />
In Tae Kwon Do, I began to experience nagging injuries to my knees, ankles and finally my back that, essentially, retired me from the sport. While jogging, I was able to avoid repetitive type injuries by a technique of 'fast walking' as opposed to a pure 'jog' for nearly two years. But, my lower back eventually had its way, knocking me out of that activity, equally well. I have been able to replace that activity, fairly well, with hiking. I do enjoy hiking, but it does not have the cardio advantages that running does. So, I have not been particularly successful at dropping the weight that I need to.<br />
<br />
Not too surprising, I suppose, I have become susceptible to some levels of depression, as a result. I currently take a low level anti-depressant, which has been pretty effective, along with some thought exercises. I have also transformed my 'passion to write' into a self-help methodology. Nevertheless, this Ankylosing Spondylitis is a cunning, insidious bastard; he can strike in the most unexpected ways. As I was writing and putting words to paper, I noticed that my right eye was beginning to ache and the white of my eye was radiating, beet red. When I looked in the mirror, I saw one normal eye and one very angry eye. I hoped it was simply an allergy that, perhaps, eye drops or anti-histamines could remedy.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NCkaRAxhPuI/U_GQnh21ngI/AAAAAAAAAYw/Sr0faX5uXZI/s1600/Iritis.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pFtxX7PNDC8/U_amlCXhgAI/AAAAAAAAAZI/O9RFWFQznu8/s1600/285x285_Ankylosing_Spondylitis_Painful_Eyes_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pFtxX7PNDC8/U_amlCXhgAI/AAAAAAAAAZI/O9RFWFQznu8/s1600/285x285_Ankylosing_Spondylitis_Painful_Eyes_7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Ahhhhh, but no such luck. AS has another little gift: a condition called Iritis or swelling of the iris. Untreated, it starts putting pressure on the optic nerve causing intense pain and possible blindness. So I am under treatment now, but my right eye is hazy which is quite distracting when you are attempting to write or work, for that matter. It has taken me almost a week to write this entry.<br />
<br />
But, I will recover. I will pick the pace of writing up again. This posting is not really about my infirmaries, I want it to highlight that I am going to persevere. I will not let auto-immune disease define me.<br />
<br />
So, please bear with me for a while. I will post some of Kat's wonderful photos soon. I cannot possibly keep up with her.<br />

Until next time.<br />

</h3>
<br />
Every now and then, everyone indulges in a shameless self publicity. Am I one of those? Yep, I am today. While our blog has mainly been about our travels and interweaving Kat's photography into the posts, this time I am going to talk about some of my activities. <br />
<br />
Ah yes, the lifestyle of full time RV'ers: It isn't always about workcamping and discharging the black water tank. Actually, that is merely a tiny part of it. The reason we choose this lifestyle is to stop and smell the roses; we engage with nature and thoroughly enjoy the places that most people are too busy to even detect. The 2nd component of that enjoyment is the analysis of the experiences that we partake in. Kat does this by emptying the contents of her camera to her hard drive and editing her pictures until they become art.<br />
<br />
I likewise have a process in which to relive what we experience. I am doing this by writing fiction. The scenery and people around me either become a story or drive me to include them (or a facsimile of them) into a narrative.<br />
<br />
In the past, I have embarked on the process of writing fiction novels. But when one lives the hectic life of a career, house payment, keeping up with the Jones's etc., It is easy to become sidetracked and lose focus on your story. Kat has often become frustrated with me for starting and not finishing a book. But now with the advent of e-books and self publishing, staying focused is no longer such a challenge for me. I have also opted to modify my strategy: instead of attempting to author the gigantic, monolithic, 'War and Peace' sized piece of literature, I have chosen to write novellas. These short stories can then be used as a collection.<br />
<br />
This change of strategy has paid dividends: I have already published three short stories on Amazon. Two of these stories are part of a serial publication that I have named 'The Pale Horse Saga'. In literature, beginning with The Bible, the symbol of the pale horse has been synonymous with a deliverer of death.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.</i> <b>Revelation 6:8</b></blockquote>
<br />
This is a series about a secretive vigilante group who decide to take on the vicious men in power that believe themselves to be 'above the law'. This group recruits the surviving victims of the atrocities of the wicked and trains them as weapons to bring them down.<br />
<br />
I thoroughly enjoyed penning these stories and continue to do so: Volume 3 is 75% complete. But, more joy exists when others share in it.<br />
<br />
I would love nothing more than having my peers, my compadres (in exploration) partake in my work and provide feedback.<br />
<br />
<br />
Hence, I invite you, encourage you and just short of 'beg' you to download these free e-books, read them and provide an honest review. If you enjoy it, hurray!!! More are sure to come soon. If you feel the need to scrape your eyeballs free from the shrapnel of my prose, then, please, feel free to roast my work verbally and literally, if you wish.<br />
<br />
Below are the links. Did I mention that they are free. In fact, you can also buy one and get one free. If you wish, you can buy them at 50% off, since half of nothing is still nothing. But this price is for a limited time, so don't hesitate, get them right away.<br />

It was sort of a rocky road and not the most desirable route to get to our new location. Long before we reached the decision to become full time RVers, I had been seeking work in Florida, but the opportunity never really presented itself. It was our original desire to travel the United States and be able to travel to our grandchildren, but life can so drastically change overnight. My brother's illness and passing brought us to Florida, but news from our daughter is keeping us there, for the present, anyway. She and her family, residing near Seattle, Washington are moving to Hawaii. Therefore, she and our grandkids will no longer be practically accessible by a land based RV. That is not all terrible; I do not think we will really mind flying to Hawaii a couple times a year, but it definitely altered our goals.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I have attained employment in Tampa and we have found a really nice place to park our Dutchman. And so begins our love affair with the state of Florida. In Georgia, we had to travel hours to visit places of beauty and we did. We relocated to Cumming, GA to be near the North Georgia Mountains and we experienced most of the beauty, Georgia had to offer. But now that we are in Florida, unique places of beauty are only 10 minutes away in whatever direction. As a photographer, Kat, is lost in wonderland so standby for a long series of subtropical paradise postings.<br />

No doubt, we went through a rough patch with my brothers illness and passing, along with an unplanned relocation and need to find a replacement income. But, through all of that, we have survived and come out on top.<br />
<br />
Our strategy changed, as well as our overall plans (we are now full time RVer's that are also full time Florida residents. Kat has continuously taken pictures, while I commuted every week from Tampa to Atlanta. I am finally free of that cycle, now working in Tampa. Our kids are being transferred to Hawaii, so our need to travel the west coast is gone. We are very happy to focus on Florida for a while.<br />
<br />
So standby for a barrage of postings full of Florida's stunning beauty.<br />

Until later, happy trails.<br />

I was unable to write anything for awhile and it has hit Kit and myself to our core. I never imagined life without him in it or how much I would miss his comments, love, and likes on my photos or posts on Facebook. Not that I am just living on that social media, but that's how Dennis chose to communicate to us. I never imagined being here in Florida without Dennis there to share a pot of coffee and not be able to sit with him for hours. When we made the decision to live in an RV full time, one of the driving forces was to search him out and spend some time together. Kit and I would talk about that dream to drag him along on our adventures and share some talks over a pot of coffee. We knew from speaking with him how much he was hurting and the regrets he had on choosing to remarry. We wanted to supply him with that escape. We knew he was working too hard, but that was who he was. Dennis was always there for us in our youth and he gave us some superb advice. I will always treasure those fond memories of him.<br />
I remember the first time I met him and his lovely Vicki. I was seven months pregnant and my doctor told me due to my previous pregnancy difficulties that I would not be able to travel from California to Florida in a car, so I had to fly. I was flying with a two year old (who as all two years olds can be a bit unruly at times) and seven months pregnant, while Kit drove our little car across the United States. Dennis offered to pick me and my little two year old up at the airport. The flight was not an easy one as we hit turbulence and I was nauseous. When we finally landed in Florida, I saw this man with this crazy mustache walk across the airport towards me, with sweet Vicki on his arm. I had a description and had seen photos of them, but had never met them. They immediately wrapped their arms around me and I nearly broke with relief. As my sweet two year old was in a stroller, Dennis immediately let her out. I told him she had boundless energy and he said that's alright I got this. My girl had her uncle and aunt wrapped around her finger from that point on. As I predicted she bounded off and Dennis ran after her. Vicki and I started chatting and she helped me with my luggage and wouldn't let me lift a finger. Dennis was still having fun chasing his girl as he called her. They came back hand in hand with huge smiles on their faces. The connection between them was priceless and I can still see the love in his big huge eyes for us and Vicki's sweet hugs. Oh how I miss them and how we connected and they made me so comfortable from that first moment. I fell in love with them and their sweet boys (whom I met later) and felt so at ease with them.<br />
There are so many memories of them being there for us throughout our time in Florida. We spent a lot of time getting to know them. When Kit was in boot camp, I was planning on staying home for Xmas, Vicki and Dennis would not have that and picked me and our little bit up for a family reunion in Tennessee. You could never argue with Vicki and her stubborness, she would not take no for an answer. Vicki was what I always had hoped for in a sister as I had none growing up. We had a such a great time on just the drive up, they were always helpful, loving, and giving. Dennis and Vicki were so much fun to be around and their two boys were so sweet. I fell in love with their boys as much as they fell in love with our girls.<br />
On leaving Florida, Dennis and Vicki insisted we stop at their shop. Dennis wanted to make sure our car was safe for the long drive up to Massachusetts. He did a total overhaul on our little car, gave Kit some tools, and Vicki made sure we had all we needed as well. They were the most loving and giving couple I knew. They would not hear of any payment and with many hugs and kisses they sent us on our way. To me their kindness touched me to the core and I vowed to one day repay that kindness.<br />
Throughout the years we kept in touch, we watched as their sons grew into young men and they watched as our girls grew. Even over the miles we were close.<br />
As Kit was leaving the Navy, Vicki got sick and I lost a sister and Dennis lost a huge piece of himself. I remember one time after she passed of us getting together with Dennis and he took us out for a drink. After having a few drinks and good talks, Dennis did some karaoke and he blew me away with his voice. The man could sing and we had some good times that weekend. It appears all three brothers have a talent in that area. My Kit sang to me at my wedding and has a beautiful voice. Dennis was hurting and we told him our home was always open to him anytime. He did end up moving in with us for quite awhile, but he always helped pitch in around our little home. Kit and Dennis replaced the flooring, planted a garden, and Dennis made me a gorgeous hanging pan wrack. Dennis and I made fresh homemade salsa together and we just genuinely enjoyed spending time talking over a strong pot of coffee. Dennis was always there for his boys as well as our girls and he was a huge influence on them. I never wanted Dennis to leave, but when he did we never lost that connection we had developed. We visited him in Florida on our family vacations and had fun miniature golfing with him. He was always teasing us girls and had such a great connection with his brother. When we needed advice we always went to Dennis and he always took the time for us. The girls were spoiled by him and had fun with their uncle, but what I value the most is what a positive influence he was on their young lives. <br />
As Kit and I explore Florida now, I can feel and see Dennis everywhere I look. I will forever miss my sister Vicki and my brother Dennis. In his passing my heart shattered, but I am happy that he got to tease me even in his last few weeks. I have this huge urge to "Get in the kitchen and make him a pie" as he always said. I only wish I could have one more pot of coffee and time to make him his pie just so we could once again sit and have one of our deep discussions. Dennis you were loved by so many and will be missed deeply. <br />
<br />
Always in my heart,<br />

So far, our time has been wondrous. We have been able to visit some awesome places and still be flexible enough for me to keep my full time job. Little did I know that this decision would provide us an incredible opportunity.<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago, we received some very terrible news. My oldest brother, Dennis, had been diagnosed with late stage 4 lung cancer. Initially, he was given 6 months to live. Then he had some additional complications (an intestinal blockage) and had that number reduced to weeks. My brother was transported to his son's house for his final hospice care. So, without hesitation, Kat and I picked up and pulled our Dutchmen to the Tampa area. I can only say that it is an honor and a privilege to help my brother and his family through this final chapter of his life.<br />
<br />
At 17 years my senior, Dennis and I grew up in different worlds. He was fighting in Vietnam when I was an infant. As a child, I moved to the west coast of the U.S. (California), while my brother remained in Florida. So, we had differences in age and distance. But, he managed to be a major influence throughout my life. When our parents were going through a messy divorce and using us kids as weapons against each other, he was the stabilizing force. As I went into bootcamp, my brother and his wife took in my pregnant wife and daughter and helped get us on our feet.<br />
<br />
From his time in the Navy Construction Battalion, Dennis learned to fix and/or build just about anything. He started and ran a dive welding business and opened a meat market for his wife. He possessed and passed to his children an amazing work ethic.<br />
<br />
Nearly 20 years ago, Dennis lost his wife to cancer. He never recovered from that as she seemed to take his drive with her. He vanished for awhile, but managed to re-invent himself in the IT world, installing mail sorters for the U.S. Post Office.<br />
<br />
Once again, distance became a barrier. I was working on my career and Dennis was travelling and working 80 hours a week to support a new wife that was not of the same calibre, and drained the rest of the life from him.<br />
<br />
It was my goal to re-unite us 3 brothers for a combined project. Now, that will not be possible.<br />
<br />
My brother will supply the universe his much needed energy.<br />
<br />
See you on the trail,<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Items we stuffed into our backpacks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Kat and I have returned from our jaunt in the wilderness. To recap, we set out to backpack from Amicalola Falls State Park to Springer Mountain. According to the sign, it is a mere 8.5 mile hop, skip and a jump.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5HAFY5yFIaw/Ul9LtK7e0JI/AAAAAAAAATk/BtZghRQiiSo/s1600/ATinGA-ApproachArch32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5HAFY5yFIaw/Ul9LtK7e0JI/AAAAAAAAATk/BtZghRQiiSo/s400/ATinGA-ApproachArch32.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Such an inviting entrance</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Now, we have had plenty of experience at hiking pretty lengthy trails. But this was our first time carrying any substantial gear (for camping, eating, etc.) To be fair, there are plenty of signs warning that it was a <i><u>very strenuous</u></i> effort level. But, we figured, no worries. How hard can it be? We have run 10K's, biked for many, many miles. What's a little hike.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PZEo92XpVs8/Ul9N97BZN7I/AAAAAAAAATw/g1EjYvOpfDE/s1600/amanandhispupsfallkat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PZEo92XpVs8/Ul9N97BZN7I/AAAAAAAAATw/g1EjYvOpfDE/s400/amanandhispupsfallkat.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Surprisingly, no kitchen sink in the pack, but everything else ...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So, we departed, carrying way!!!! to much weight. Did I mention that this was our first time doing this?<br />
<br />
When we arrived, we realized that we had left one of our water bottles at the camper. No big deal, we had 2 full 3 litre bladders and 2 more bottles, we could easily refill them along the way (right?).<br />
<br />
Then, about a half mile into the hike, Kat tripped and fell, striking her knee pretty hard. It bruised and swelled right up. So, we used common sense and headed home. NOPE. Kat insisted on pushing forward. I understand her feelings. She has Lupus and does not like to have physical limitations hold her back.<br />
<br />
Thus, we pressed on. Our pace was slow and steady. Kat favored that injured knee considerably and ended up twisting her ankle over and over again. But, still we pressed on. (Please do not confuse our stubbornness with wisdom).<br />
<br />
This trail consists of climbing and descending at least 3 sizeable mountains, more than 2000 feet ascension. This was where, taking our dogs was a big advantage. Zorro, our very loyal 70 pounds of pure muscle was more than happy to use his strength to pull Kat up the inclines. She attached his leash to her belt loop and he showed boundless energy. Nova, at 38 pounds seemed intent on pulling me up too. Amazing the power and stamina that they have.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3y8i14zxpiE/Ul9TlqK3IBI/AAAAAAAAAUI/GdFQsvO-C8k/s1600/AT+Approach+Trail+GIF.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3y8i14zxpiE/Ul9TlqK3IBI/AAAAAAAAAUI/GdFQsvO-C8k/s400/AT+Approach+Trail+GIF.gif" width="342" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Water ended up being a rare, precious commodity</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Our slow pace and extra demand on our dogs meant that we used more water than we intended. We had to make sure the dogs stayed hydrated, even before our own needs. So, we noticed that we were getting low in a very treacherous area aptly named Nimblewood Gap.<br />
<br />
My pack was much too heavy and not well balanced. Fortunately, 2 experienced lady hikers (Mary Lou and Patty) helped me to resolve that issue and re-arranged the items hanging on my pack for better balance. It was a major difference as I did not have to stop so often to remove the pack. They also told us that water was about an hour ahead. Thanks Ladies.<br />
<br />
After hiking, what seemed about 80 miles, we saw a sign that said it was still 3.4 miles to Springer Mountain. That was quite discouraging. <br />
<br />
Finally, we saw the sign pointing in the direction of the water. I was expecting a babbling brook or stream, but was surprised to find the smallest trickle of water coming from a rock. The water barely pooled. I would not even be able to fill a normal water bottle with this. Fortunately, I had packed a small plastic flask and was able to lay it flat and fill it about a quarter full and transfer water to the bottles a little at a time. We were so tired and thirsty, that we drank the water, not waiting for purification. (A big risk, but we lucked out and did not have any symptoms of Giardia or other microbial ailments).<br />
<br />
Again, we marched on, not really enjoying the landscape, just wanting to get to our destination. Finally, after a couple more hours, we reached our shelter. Looking at the horizon, we had about 1/2 hour of light and we needed more water. So, Kat set up camp and I followed the sign the water. This time, the hike was a half mile and down a very steep incline. Any steeper and it would have required a repel. At the bottom was another spring, but this one made the other spring look like a roaring river. I filled up as many containers as I could with the little light I had, huffed my way back up the incline and reached camp as it was getting dark.<br />
<br />
After getting a fire going and boiling some water to make dinner, we actually started to feel better. I hung our food to prevent it from bear pilfering and we made our way to laying out under the stars. Then I remembered why I don't like to sleep on the hard ground. I don't sleep very well. We both took some OTC pain medicine and finally passed out from exhaustion about 3:30 AM. Fortunately, I had brought a small propane heater as it got quite windy and cold over night.<br />
<br />
Part of what had kept me awake was worrying about Kat's knee and ankle. If she swelled up even more over night and was unable to hobble back, we would be in a world of hurt. There is not a hint of cell service in those mountains. Also, it was Monday and we seemed to be the only hikers in the area, so getting help would not be so easy.<br />
<br />
But, after a terrible night's sleep, we both actually awoke refreshed and committed to getting back home. The anti-inflammatory worked wonders for us both, over night.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DHlFPwD8Mfw/Ul9brZu3ZWI/AAAAAAAAAUY/DyuvW1YldGE/s1600/ourcampfallactionstraightkat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DHlFPwD8Mfw/Ul9brZu3ZWI/AAAAAAAAAUY/DyuvW1YldGE/s400/ourcampfallactionstraightkat.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, I ventured down the hellish hillside and topped off our water containers, we had breakfast and put one foot in front of the other all the way back. What took us 8 hours the prior day only took us 5 to return (lighter packs, more organized and sheer determination).<br />
<br />
Once again, our dogs were invaluable. Zorro would stay right near us, when not assisting Kat up the hills (between squirrel chases that is). Then when a large incline was coming up, he would just walk back to her to see if she wanted help. He was very heroic. I had to keep Nova on the leash at all times. She has the worst dog ADHD that I have seen, she would chase squirrels and possibly bears, raccoons or whatever and not come back in a timely manner. But she was still more than happy to walk and walk and walk on the leash. As we got back to the car, and dead on our feet, they both were still in full squirrel hunt mode. Amazing energy.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZY_uHZlLn00/Ul9eXcUClZI/AAAAAAAAAUk/H6yyrFYz6vg/s1600/novakat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZY_uHZlLn00/Ul9eXcUClZI/AAAAAAAAAUk/H6yyrFYz6vg/s400/novakat.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Exhausted, but happy Nova sleeping on Zorro at end of trip</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
So, we survived our first backpacking trip. It almost turned into a survival story due to lack of preparation and underestimating the terrain.<br />
<br />
It seems so silly now. We didn't just decide to run a 10K one day, we started off small and worked our way up. We should have approach backpacking the same way. And so we shall going forward.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FcNclQhKmAw/Ul9fdoLcp-I/AAAAAAAAAUw/tzu77nLU2a4/s1600/prettywildflowerkat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FcNclQhKmAw/Ul9fdoLcp-I/AAAAAAAAAUw/tzu77nLU2a4/s400/prettywildflowerkat.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Kat and I are still recovering from our aches, pain and blisters, and she is starting to edit the pictures that she did take. Although, they are not as many as we thought due to her knee bruise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U3AdRXcRgN4/Ul9fdWcnPoI/AAAAAAAAAUs/OXwZufkOzI8/s1600/prpleflowerskat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U3AdRXcRgN4/Ul9fdWcnPoI/AAAAAAAAAUs/OXwZufkOzI8/s400/prpleflowerskat.jpg" width="387" /></a></div>
<br />
But, we hope to learn from our mistakes.<br />
<br />

<br />
Sorry we have been too busy to post of late. We have been having lots of fun bike riding and generally exploring the area. Tomorrow, we are going to undertake a new adventure (for us). Kat and I are going to backpack from Amicalola Falls to Springer Mountain, which is the official Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail. We will then break out the tent, spend the night and hike back. Our backpacks are all packed up and loaded in the truck. We are getting up early tomorrow and heading out.<br />
<br />
We are complete amateurs and have probably packed way too much, but it is something that we have always wanted to do.<br />
<br />
We have notified family and co-workers in case we don't make it back in a reasonable time.<br />
<br />I am sure Kat will have tons of photos to edit and post.<br />
<br />
<br />
See you on the trail,<br />

It's been awhile since I have posted. I wasn't feeling up to par for a couple weeks. I have lupus and sometimes it starts to flare. The aches and pains come and go from time to time, but at times it's almost unbearable. I just keep positive and keep moving. My poor Kit has RA and we have learned to just keep active and it helps keep them at bay.<br />
<br />
Nova (our beloved furry female kid) had an incident a few weeks back. Nova has had this thing with bikes ever since a little boy tried to intentionally run her over. Kit was running with Nova and she decided to jump out at a poor unsuspecting biker. The biker was not injured and stopped to ask if Nova was okay. She seemed shaken at first, but upon further inspection I saw that she had chipped her tooth and when I took her to the vet we found out it was two teeth. Our poor girl has been in a lot of pain, but on antibiotics to stop any infection. Nova is scheduled for surgery on Thursday to perform root canals on her two k-9 teeth that were broken, one is almost completely gone and has the root exposed. If you want to keep up with Nova and her recovery, please feel free to follow her and our other fur babies on facebook. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/k9xplorers">https://www.facebook.com/k9xplorers</a><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Poor Nova resting.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The last few weeks have been hectic, but Kit and I have been staying active. We bought ourselves bikes and have the perfect place to ride them. We love riding and feeling the breeze on our faces. It makes me feel like a kid again to ride, plus it's great exercise. In doing some research we have also found a great hiking spot less than ten miles away from us and may have overlooked it altogether if Nova hadn't been injured, since they don't allow dogs. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a mile and a half steep climb to the top and the vantage point at the top is unbelievable. It is well worth the climb and we have been a few times and plan on going back tonight with a picnic dinner. Kit and I just sit and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us, it is just so peaceful and quiet up there. This has become one of my favorite spots and I love looking out and connecting with nature.<br />

This past weekend we went to a Dragon boat festival. It was so much fun to see all the different cultures that were there. There were some Indian dancers that were just amazing and I couldn't stop photographing them. Then watching the dragon boats racing across the water was nice too, seeing them paddling and working as a team to make it to the finish line. I was impressed, on one of the boats there were men and women probably in their 60's. Then at the opening ceremony there were dragons, dancers, and fireworks. They even had a flower ceremony at the end for cancer survivors. I highly suggest you check out your area for festivals that may be going on in your neck of the woods.<br />

Does anyone else get the feeling that you need to go to exotic places or you are not really exploring. Often we are driven by the "need" to travel to the famous sites to capture the grandeur of nature. It is almost a status of us full time travellers to stake our claim to Yellow Stone, the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls or you just aren't exploring. I really wish that we were in the position to go to one of these premium locations, but my career is currently keeping me tied to Georgia at this time.<br />
<br />
So we are keeping our focus on the local. Indeed, there is much to see wherever you are. Every location has its own unique history and narrative. We want to uncover the beauty of the local. While everyone is looking for greener pastures ... elsewhere. Maybe, we can help them find those patches of green in their neighborhood.<br />
<br />
In that spirit, we have begun exploring a place that is only 8 miles from our home base. We nearly ignored it because it does not allow dogs. The place: <a href="http://www.sawneemountain.org/" target="_blank">Sawnee Mountain Preserve</a>. <br />

What did we find? Only a very easily accessible location to monitor and track the emergence of Autumn in the Blue Ridge/Appalachians without have to trek to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. Now for some of the breathtaking views from this backyard gem.<br />

<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
It is amazing how just a couple of days
of perfect weather can wash away weeks of rain soaked frustration.
Wrapping up an extremely soggy August, we are now in a cycle of dry
and unseasonably cool weather. Guess what? Time for another road
trip. So, we wound up Hemi-Lou and our canines made for the Blue
Ridge Mountains of North East Georgia. Destination: <a href="http://www.gastateparks.org/TallulahGorge" target="_blank">Tallulah Gorge State Park</a>.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
The drive was surprisingly easy.
Interstate 985 transitions into Georgia Hwy 365 and takes you almost
to the doorstep of the state park. I always like to see
non-stressful approaches to places of wonder. I am more likely to
return with the travel trailer when the terrain is accommodating.
From our current base in Cumming, GA, the distance was 77 miles or 1
hour, 28 minutes of travel.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Tallulah Gorge State Park is the home
of a series of 4 cascading falls that make up Tallulah Falls. The
gorge has been given the nickname of the “Niagara Falls” of the
south. It is also listed as one of the <a href="http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/destinations/seven-natural-wonders-georgia" target="_blank">Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia</a>.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Attempting to describe such a place
definitely demonstrates the limitation of adjectives in the English
language. I can use words such as majestic, breathtaking,
splendorous and awe-inspiring, but they really do not convey what we
experienced with our eyes. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Unlike the major tourist draws like the
Grand Canyon and Yellowstone, this site only gets a few thousand
visitors a year. Permits are required to hike the floor of the
gorge. We were able to hike around the north and south rim of the
gorge, but pets are not allowed on the floor of the gorge, nor are
they allowed to venture down to the suspension bridge.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
So, we count this trip as a scouting
trip. The short term goal will be to target a long weekend in
September to take our time hiking and shooting photos, <i>engorging
ourselves in the gorge</i>, if you will. </div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Kat is starting to get requests
for some of her prints from prior locations, and I am sure that
demand is going to increase after she finalizes the edition on the
images she captured on this trip. In the future, I will add some
links to purchase some of her artwork in various formats.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
We can't wait to go back and do some real exploring.</div>

But it does help keep our lives and travels in perspective. The North Georgia August has continued to break records for rainfall. We have tried our best to enjoy the outdoors even in rainy weather, but lightning and flooding are more than plastic panchos can cover. So, we have been spending more time indoors in our camper than we would like.<br />
<br />
The poor dogs have had to endure short and wet walks, mostly just to relieve themselves. The timing has been uncanny, every afternoon as I am coming home from work, the rain starts and has spoiled most afternoons and evenings. Kat and I have been frustrated, mainly because we desire to stay active both struggle with our weight and we begin losing the battle if we have periods of inactivity. Plus, who wants to stay cooped up in a 29 foot home.<br />
<br />
So we did take some action to increase our living space. We setup an 11 x 11 covered screen room so we can enjoy the outdoors sans 6 legged flying critters. But, even that has been challenged by sideways rain. But we have been able to use the room a few times now. It makes such a difference eating and relaxing outdoors<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--yDuDNx1Np0/Uhlwe3Q1HRI/AAAAAAAAANs/x52eDpf9MjQ/s1600/screenroom1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--yDuDNx1Np0/Uhlwe3Q1HRI/AAAAAAAAANs/x52eDpf9MjQ/s400/screenroom1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
We have also been more able to utilize our outdoor kitchen. (A camp stove and oven).<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u7po4tZHYi0/Uhl1Ke-OMlI/AAAAAAAAAN4/cf2_PgLG2Ek/s1600/screenroom2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u7po4tZHYi0/Uhl1Ke-OMlI/AAAAAAAAAN4/cf2_PgLG2Ek/s400/screenroom2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The 2nd thing we did was to purchase a 22 inch TV and install it under the counter. We had been getting by without a television since we were spending most of our free time outdoors. The constant rain did cause us to adjust our priorities a bit.<br />
<br />
We did not do anything elaborate like get cable. We are using our Roku for most of our entertainment and the antenna for local coverage.<br />
<br />
So, we did add spend a little money to upgrade our living space this week.<br />
<br />
The next item was not such a success. Last Sunday evening (a rare dry evening) I was walking the 2 bigger dogs by the lake. It was a nice, enjoyable walk. The dogs were able to play and wrestle. So, with them secured on their leashes, we starting walking back towards our camper. As I neared the road that leads up the hill to our camper, I noticed that the neighbor's toy poodle had got free from its owner and was running straight toward my dogs, barking and growling. I tried to move away from the small dog, but it veered right into and attacked my (much bigger) dogs. Obviously, this is not an example of how smart poodles are supposed to be. Now, Zorro, really hates to be in fights, so he actually slid out of his collar and put some distance between himself and the situation. But Nova, who notoriously has small dog aggression, did not back down. She ferociously defended herself. The poodles owner finally arrived and helped me to free the poodle from Nova. It was quite horrific. I expected severe damage to that poodle. Fortunately, no vital places were punctured on the dog. It had blood on 3 legs and will make a full recovery. One more minute may have been a different result.<br />
<br />
I know the poodle was traumatized, but it will do the same stupid thing next time. I was traumatized too and even Nova seemed pretty shaken up from the whole matter. So, I have decided to just pick Nova up in future instances like this. We were very lucky that it was not worse. Then a few days later, I got a chance to test this method. Again, the rain was a factor. A storm had come through right as most people were coming home from work. So, everyone had to wait until the lightning and rain subsided to walk their dogs. As we were walking our dogs, I noticed about 10 other dogs being walked, not usually a big deal, but ... the rain had caused all of the dogs to feel a bit anxious, it seemed. To make things worse, a little girl (about 7) was trying to walk here medium size dog. It was too much for her. The dog pulled her off her feet. She let go and the dog was headed right for us. (Deja vu). Just then a chihuahua got off leash and headed toward the loose dog which was headed for us. A perfect storm of events. I did manage to pick up Nova. Kat took Zorro and we headed up the hill without incident.<br />
<br />
We managed to get through the week and it appears that this weekend will be drier. Things are looking up, already. This was not as much fun to talk about and post, but I do not want to give the impression that nothing bad ever happens to us. We just push through and try to not let it impact our overall outlook.<br />
<br />
Until next time - Kit.<br />

<style type="text/css">P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }</style>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
More than a month has passed since we
cut the tether from our stick house. We have been staying at a very
scenic RV park by the lake. We are hanging around the edge of metro
Atlanta while my current job continues. Our next big step will be to
exit my full time job for other possibilities. Oh yeah, that is a
big step for me. I am very comfortable where I currently work. I
have been there 7 years and I have plenty of work for the foreseeable
future. But, we want to travel across the United States, so I need
to find a way to replace that income, at least a fair portion of it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Now, that anxiety will always be there.
But, I have to examine how far we have come in just a few months.
We were able to save enough money to buy our RV. We sold all of the
things that were holding us back. We transitioned out of our stick
house and now we can just step out our front door and be in nature.
That is quite a change in a short period.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I realized the other day, as I was
talking to a co-worker, how different we are than most people. I
mentioned that I went fishing the afternoon before and she stopped
me. “Hey wait! Did you say that you went fishing on a Tuesday?”
Staying a couple hundred feet from a scenic late does give you that
advantage. I then remembered that most people (and formerly us) have
to wait until the weekend to enjoy recreational activities. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://traciemiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/workplace-stress-006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="http://traciemiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/workplace-stress-006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
The work
week is bondage for most. Even most of your weekend is taken up with
activities that you were too busy to do while you were working,
further cutting into your recreation. No wonder so many people are
burnt out. This year has been especially tough on people in Georgia.
It has rained most weekends this summer. The weekend plans have
been quashed for many. Fishing on Tuesday is a huge mental
advantage.</div>

The lifestyle change and decisions we
have made are worth it. For the first time in our lives, we are on
the side where the grass is greener. When I get home from work, it
is like a mini-weekend, every day. Of course, it would not be as
enjoyable without Kat here to partake in it all with me. She handles
the little things during the day (laundry, housekeeping, etc.) that
make it possible to jump right into enjoyment when I am home. I
cannot emphasize enough how important her contributions are.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Free time is more valuable than I could
have imagined. In the last month, I have been able to spend quality
time with our dogs and work on their training. Zorro no longer
requires a leash. We still keep it on him in public places, but it
is good to know that if I drop the leash, he will stay close by. Now, I want to start teaching him to catch a frisbee.
Nova nearly has her small dog aggression under control. I have also
taken some time to learn some Spanish.</div>

I am sure that this lifestyle is not
for everyone. I wish we had embarked on this journey years ago. But
we were not in the mindset to even consider such a thing. But now we
feel more free than we ever have in our 27 years together.</div>

Monday morning I went down to a sunflower farm that is just down the road. I had fun snapping so many photos of my favorite flower.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was a real thrill to try and capture their beauty. I spent probably a good hour just walking around trying to find the best perspective.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G6jDvURusCM/UgEqrhXqODI/AAAAAAAAAMs/b3xY1puWMfM/s1600/rowsofbeauty2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G6jDvURusCM/UgEqrhXqODI/AAAAAAAAAMs/b3xY1puWMfM/s320/rowsofbeauty2k.jpg" width="259" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Of course I had to purchase some to take home with me as well and after walking the dogs the next morning I noticed how the sun was shining through the trees on them and took a few more photos. </div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w15JbkwqA6k/UgErLN_VfOI/AAAAAAAAAM0/uaJmt-xjYq8/s1600/sunflowersinthesun2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w15JbkwqA6k/UgErLN_VfOI/AAAAAAAAAM0/uaJmt-xjYq8/s320/sunflowersinthesun2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Then this weekend Kit and I decided to check out another one of my loves, covered bridges. There is a Poole's Mill covered bridge not even ten miles from where we are staying. This bridge is a very old bridge and not in the best condition. The land once belonged to a Cherokee Chief. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k50p3oFE4B0/UgEsdupoO8I/AAAAAAAAANE/E4VdNx7g0Cw/s1600/coveredbridgesign2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k50p3oFE4B0/UgEsdupoO8I/AAAAAAAAANE/E4VdNx7g0Cw/s320/coveredbridgesign2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
The area is gorgeous and we really enjoyed ourselves. I of course had to get a few pictures of the bridge. It is an old rickety bridge. The graffiti on this bridge is just sad and there are a lot of recent defacing of the bridge. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gLPM28CIWXs/UgEuQQpiNkI/AAAAAAAAANk/oQBZzzeGV5Q/s1600/coveredbrdg2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gLPM28CIWXs/UgEuQQpiNkI/AAAAAAAAANk/oQBZzzeGV5Q/s320/coveredbrdg2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sqqkr8imxRk/UgEuO0XUzfI/AAAAAAAAANY/Sb-ThG9oFF8/s1600/coveredbridge2hdr2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sqqkr8imxRk/UgEuO0XUzfI/AAAAAAAAANY/Sb-ThG9oFF8/s320/coveredbridge2hdr2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-boay2Nm8u-g/UgEuO0Cv0rI/AAAAAAAAANU/MAhs5D90bc0/s1600/cvrdbrdgeotherside2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-boay2Nm8u-g/UgEuO0Cv0rI/AAAAAAAAANU/MAhs5D90bc0/s320/cvrdbrdgeotherside2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
A lot of people were having fun sliding down the rocks in the water. We plan on going back and doing the same. It looked like a lot of fun. Hopefully Kit will share some of his photos, he got some good ones.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fAfewCIIqlI/UgEv8pglxGI/AAAAAAAAAN0/s1sCX01Vn6o/s1600/playing2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fAfewCIIqlI/UgEv8pglxGI/AAAAAAAAAN0/s1sCX01Vn6o/s320/playing2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yesterday we took the bigger dogs back to Amicalola Falls. My little dachshund Ninja is slowing down a bit and we felt it would be best to leave him home. I have even noticed a little graying on his little ears in the past few weeks. We really enjoyed our walk up the falls and we both took a lot of photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kiUJV5nMV4E/UgEym91Yz6I/AAAAAAAAAOE/l6jdxj3SY14/s1600/amifalls2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kiUJV5nMV4E/UgEym91Yz6I/AAAAAAAAAOE/l6jdxj3SY14/s320/amifalls2k.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is such a peaceful and beautiful area. We plan on going back up to the Appalachian trails and even staying over night some time. It was interesting to see the dogs reaction to the falls. Nova was in awe and I was fortunate enough to catch her wonder. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t8Dkd0vBEI4/UgE44FbZ5oI/AAAAAAAAAOU/VouwFoa5xeU/s1600/inawelookingatthefalls2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t8Dkd0vBEI4/UgE44FbZ5oI/AAAAAAAAAOU/VouwFoa5xeU/s320/inawelookingatthefalls2k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pups made it up 174 steps and metal steps at that. They were not real thrilled with the stairs, but they did well. Instead of making the pups go back down the stairs, we decided to take a path through the woods to make our descent. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4UNc66Dcj7c/UgE5qYhSMMI/AAAAAAAAAOg/t6YjL0206gM/s1600/steppingin2k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4UNc66Dcj7c/UgE5qYhSMMI/AAAAAAAAAOg/t6YjL0206gM/s320/steppingin2k.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kit and I both love the great outdoors and are finally where we want to be in life. I have so many photos from our adventures already. I think that we get so caught up in life that we actually let life slip away. Remember to make time for your self and step away from all that is holding you back and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Until next time keep smiling,</div>

I find it tranquil and relaxing to fish and throw the line in the water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7eapZa6u2s4/UfK5DeN-AiI/AAAAAAAAAL0/F_4RmKMp4dc/s1600/whatitsallabout2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7eapZa6u2s4/UfK5DeN-AiI/AAAAAAAAAL0/F_4RmKMp4dc/s320/whatitsallabout2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I have always enjoyed fishing ever since my Daddy would take me as a child. I love the thrill of the fight to get the fish in. I was fishing for Carp last night, but instead I caught a nice size turtle, poor thing had the hook stuck in his mouth. I was able to pick him up out of the water hoping not to have my hand bit in the process. I felt so bad for the little guy or girl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JYtTSyQNzB0/UfK7K6M7XfI/AAAAAAAAAMM/BIIf35GvsDQ/s1600/thankyoupose2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JYtTSyQNzB0/UfK7K6M7XfI/AAAAAAAAAMM/BIIf35GvsDQ/s320/thankyoupose2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Once freed, I put him back in the water and decided to change to a lure and go for bass or something that wouldn't attract my little friend. I pulled out my little cricket lure that I have had luck with in the past and had it tied on really well when I noticed I had my favorite shirt hooked. I was perturbed at this point and try as I might I couldn't get it loose. I was pretty mad and poor Kit thought I was mad at him.<br />
<br />
I got back to our little cabin and took off my shirt. I got the first set of tri hooks loose, but while working on loosening the second set I hooked my ring finger on my left hand. Oh my gosh it hurt and Kit immediately tugged hard on it to get it out, but to no avail. I pulled as hard as I could, but with no luck. My gosh the pain was intense and I have a high pain tolerance level. I ended up having to cut my favorite shirt anyways and if I had in the first place all the pain could have been completely avoided.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S87ESki9HBg/UfK9F6mZ1sI/AAAAAAAAAMc/eCx_lY48jWA/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S87ESki9HBg/UfK9F6mZ1sI/AAAAAAAAAMc/eCx_lY48jWA/s320/photo.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
I had no choice, but to go to the hospital. When I was checked into triage my blood pressure was 190/88. They took me right back and the staff was so nice. The Physicians Assistant proceeded to numb my finger and I had to wait for it to take affect. Once the PA came back in, he cut away the other hooks and before I knew it, the hook was out. I only felt a slight tug and was so happy to have it out. Today my finger is still numb and I didn't realize how much one finger being injured can affect typing.<br />
<br />
I have learned my lesson, once hooked cut the darn shirt. I put poor Kit through so much, he was so sweet and so worried. I don't ever want to go through hooking myself ever again.<br />
<br />
Lesson learned,<br />
<br />
KatAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05430532105368492170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2642586901767628293.post-5586781573071484782013-07-24T07:22:00.000-04:002013-08-22T13:23:49.898-04:00Time well spentWe have been having so much fun exploring our area with the pups. We went out this past weekend to a different part of the park. The boardwalks are endless and the area we explored was even more wild and overgrown.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2S-6jT9mgTw/Ue-w3y1gS_I/AAAAAAAAAKo/Pih7YCfegrc/s1600/wildpath2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2S-6jT9mgTw/Ue-w3y1gS_I/AAAAAAAAAKo/Pih7YCfegrc/s320/wildpath2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Our pups are enjoying all the new smells and new areas. It is fun to see their excitement and energy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-07o4LUeT7Lw/Ue-yEmBwm5I/AAAAAAAAAK0/2Nf72D7CJo8/s1600/onourwalk2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-07o4LUeT7Lw/Ue-yEmBwm5I/AAAAAAAAAK0/2Nf72D7CJo8/s320/onourwalk2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Sometimes we even come across wildlife on our hikes and the pups get even more excited.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h-ssw6d9o0s/Ue-yeQiMK2I/AAAAAAAAAK8/s5gBnC4Y-Ac/s1600/bunnyfreeze2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="198" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h-ssw6d9o0s/Ue-yeQiMK2I/AAAAAAAAAK8/s5gBnC4Y-Ac/s320/bunnyfreeze2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Don't move little bunny or my pups will see you. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Sunday we went fishing and relaxed for a better part of the day, it was so nice to finally have a break from the rain and actually sit back and fish.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I of course could not resist sitting there and snapping a few photos of all the beauty that surrounds us. The different varieties of dragonflies is amazing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZbzD_HtXIw/Ue-zbjqXwKI/AAAAAAAAALM/QFTv3V3Vul8/s1600/inapainting2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZbzD_HtXIw/Ue-zbjqXwKI/AAAAAAAAALM/QFTv3V3Vul8/s320/inapainting2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iIcyPnQ_sFg/Ue-zcDIUYcI/AAAAAAAAALU/qMilzWpsPRM/s1600/redsidehdr2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iIcyPnQ_sFg/Ue-zcDIUYcI/AAAAAAAAALU/qMilzWpsPRM/s320/redsidehdr2a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I also came across a sweet little green friend who honored me with his presence for a few minutes. He sat on my blanket for a few and allowed me to pick him up. I didn't hold him for long because I was afraid of hurting him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eUGzJs6lgx4/Ue-z95uOPjI/AAAAAAAAALc/06D95wDWJK0/s1600/mylittlefriend4a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eUGzJs6lgx4/Ue-z95uOPjI/AAAAAAAAALc/06D95wDWJK0/s320/mylittlefriend4a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
There are 100's of these little green tree frogs in the trees here and I love it when we walk the dogs at night and they make their music.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While fishing yesterday, my hubby called me over to see the coolest turtle, not sure what kind he is, but I wouldn't get too close. He is now our mascot and I enjoyed watching him eat some bread that I threw in the water. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vQXZwFkAukc/Ue-0sXq5yQI/AAAAAAAAALk/psITOO7m-5A/s1600/loggerheadturtle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vQXZwFkAukc/Ue-0sXq5yQI/AAAAAAAAALk/psITOO7m-5A/s320/loggerheadturtle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I remember the excitement that I felt as a kid when I would play outside in the woods and I feel the same now. I am loving being back in nature and exploring our gorgeous area. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are currently upgrading some things in our RV. We bought a new bed, since we missed our old memory foam mattress and we are both sleeping so much better. Kit installed a new shower head and it is so much nicer. We have been slowly upgrading our space and buying things to organize our small space. It is really nice to be free of all the clutter and stuff that was holding us back. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Until next time, </div>

<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is almost midway through July and
finally we have our first non rain-drenched weekend day of the
summer. So Kat and I were eager to go to a place of beauty for our
first outing away from our base RV camp. As I mentioned before, we
chose the RV park in Cumming, GA to stay the remaining 6 months of
the year because it is withing 60 miles of all of the North Georgia
state parks and other places of interest. The strategy is that we
can leave our camper in place and drive to nearby destinations
without putting the extra wear-and-tear on Hemi-Lou (our Dodge Ram

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">Kat loves waterfalls and wanted to try
out some new photography techniques that she has learned. (<span style="color: blue;"><b><a href="http://kitandkatphotos.blogspot.com/p/amicalola-falls.html" target="_blank">You can see her photos here.</a></b></span>) So, we
chose <span style="font-variant: normal;"><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Amicalola
Falls State Park as our first day trip away from base camp. This
state park is 42 miles from our current location with parts of it
climbing some moderate grades and some very steep grades once you
enter the park to the campground area. I do not think I would be
comfortable pulling our camper up and especially down such a grade.
So having a nearby base camp will work for us very well.</span></span></span></span></span></span></div>

means “tumbling waters” in the Cherokee language and was a place
held in high regard by those peoples. I can understand why. It is
hard to stand in this place and not think about how our government
forced the Cherokees out of this area into an unfamiliar land 1,000
miles west. It is definitely not a bright spot in our history.</span></span></span></span></span></span></div>

Falls State Park has a trail to Springer Mountain, the official
starting point of the famous Appalachian Trail. With that in mind,
we will definitely return a few more times while we are in the area
to explore some of the vast hiking trails. We will especially love
the hiking as the autumn arrives and the Blue Ridge Mountains
transforms into reds, oranges and yellows that bring tourists from
all over the world.</span></span></span></span></span></span></div>

in all, we are very pleased with our first day trip away from “home”.
But what was really nice, was coming back to the camper and having
the lake and beauty right outside our door. I know I was so taken in
by the beauty of our surroundings and really liking the choices that
we have made, but I needed validation from Kat. But before I could
ask her how she was adjusting, she grabbed me and told me how much
she loves our life now and was grateful for a man that shared her
love of the outdoors. So, I guess I got my answer.</span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

The 4th of July it was pouring, but we were still in good spirits. We have had wet dog smell in the house for the past week and a half, but it seems to have let up for now. We bought some rain slickers and took the dogs to the park this past weekend. We were tired of the rain holding us back from exploring.<br />

<br />
We do have a tropical storm headed our way in the next few days, but for now we will enjoy the bright sunshine.<br />
<br />
Last night Ninja (my little squirt) jumped in the water after someone's lure thinking he could catch it. I was a little worried because my little fatty can't swim, fortunately he listened to me and got out of the water. I felt bad because the lady left and we disturbed her fishing, I don't think she was very happy with us. I hope to apologize next time I see her out there fishing and to keep little Ninja away from her.<br />

On my morning walks with the pups, I have seen all sorts of birds, dragonflies, and fish. This morning I saw a 3 foot carp close to the shore. One day soon I need to put my pole in the water. This afternoon I took the pups for a very nice walk out to Willow (my name for the beautiful Willow tree).<br />

I am looking forward to our afternoon walk in the park with Kit and the pups.<br />

We finally got on the road and the pups seemed super excited. It was about an hour drive to get to our destination and then we got there it took about an hour to set up.<br />
<br />
We put the pups out on their tie outs and proceeded to clear up a pathway to walk in our cabin. We let the pups in the cabin and relaxed for a few. Later that night Kit was diligently setting up our outdoor kitchen and organizing everything. I worked on getting the bathroom set up, then the kitchen. I was exhausted and didn't get everything done in the house on the first night there and Kit and I went to bed exhausted.<br />
<br />
The first full day of being full timers was Sunday and oh what a glorious day it was. We still have way too much stuff and had to find a storage unit for our excess. Some of the stuff we have in storage is seasonal, our winter clothes and such. I do have quite a bit I want to send to my daughter yet, but was too busy to get it sent, so she has some stuff in there too. I will be weeding out some of my photography props and such, but I will save that for another day. We plan on getting a camper shell in the next month or so and then we will keep our excess in the back of our truck. We took the dogs to the dog park and they loved it. At the lake in the park we are staying in I found a little green tree frog and showed Kit, he was such a cool little frog. I proceeded to put him back, he turned his head and looked at me and jumped on my face, he stuck there for a moment. It would have been a hilarious event to catch on video tape. I screamed at first, but then afterwards I was laughing so hard.<br />
<br />
Monday Kit had to work, so I worked around the house and walked the dogs as needed. Then in the evening we decided to take them back to the dog park even though it was a bit wet. They had fun and we decided to walk the path afterwards. We came to this big empty lacrosse field and decided to let the dogs play and they had so much fun. Nova and Zorro love to wrestle and play and they were doing great until Nova (our huntress) caught sight of a bird and took after it. We called for her to stop, but she was so focused and kept running and running. When she ran into some brush, I thought we would lose her and never see her again. Nova is my girl and my daughter (my sweet sunshine) and I worked really hard to save her when she was a pup and had Parvo. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep that first week we brought her home. We had to give Nova fluids under her skin and it was not an easy task. Nova is the sweetest dog and thanks us in her own way all the time. Nova also has a wild side and loves to hunt.<br />
<br />
We stood there trying to coax her out of the brush and I think Nova became confused how to get up to us. While trying to call to her I stepped on a red ant mound and had probably 50 ants on me. I hate red ants and their bites. Gosh I was in agony and trying to brush them off me. Kit told me to go to the car, but even in agony I couldn't leave my girl. Ninja went in after her as well and we had to tell him to get out of the brush. Kit had to actually go in after her and carry her back up through thorns and who knows what else. I was really worried at this point that he might get bitten by a snake. Kit is my hero since I couldn't do much at that point. I guess not all adventures are fun.<br />
<br />
When we got back to the cabin I took some benadryl and took a shower. My ankles were so swollen and in pain, so I went to bed early. It could have been so much worse, so I am thankful that we didn't lose Nova and Kit didn't get bitten. We were so focused on getting Nova out of the brush that we could have stepped on a rattle snake.<br />
<br />
I will include some photos of the beauty that surrounds us and of our pups. It was a trying day yesterday, but just one of those things that can happen when you have a dog that gets so focused. Kit is going to train her to listen better, so hopefully something like that doesn't happen again. It will take awhile to get her trained enough for me to feel comfortable letting her go.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

It is just after 11 PM on Friday night. We are about 12 hours away from departing for our first real trip in our Full time RV experience (total noobs). It is simultaneously exciting and terrifying ... thrilling and daunting. We have been living in our RV for 6 full weeks now, but still tethered to our stick house. But now, the house is sold and we do not belong here anymore.<br />
<br />
Our dogs even know something is up. You can check out their page <a href="https://www.facebook.com/k9xplorers" target="_blank">here</a>. <br />
<br />
Sorry for the short post, but we are quite tired from getting everything out from the old house and packed. Will post more after we get setup at the campsite.<br />
<br />
Happy Trails,<br />
<br />

The kitties made it safe and sound to Washington State. They are in the loving arms of my daughter and her sweet family. Misty was comfortable and relaxed, where as Hank was a little freaked out when my daughter picked them up from the airport.<br />
<br />
My daughter tried to coax them out of their cages once they had them home, but no amount of coaxing worked so she had to resort to the dump method. Once dumped Hank went into hiding in the covered cat box, but my daughter took away that hiding spot as well. Poor Hank was a little freaked out to say the least. The following morning Hank was nowhere to be found and after much hunting my daughter found him under her bed. During this time, Misty was adjusting to her new surroundings and laying on top of stuff my daughter was going to sell. Misty is like that, she will lay wherever you don't want her too.<br />
<br />
Hank and Misty are both still avoiding the kids, at least that's what I heard last. When the kids go to bed they venture into the living room. They have been around the grand babies before, so I have every confidence they will once again adjust. My daughter has kept me up to date on their progress and she is spoiling loving on them. I know they are in the best hands possible and it makes me happy to know it has made my daughter so happy to have them.<br />
<br />
We are almost done emptying the house of stuff (junk mostly) that we are giving away. I feel bad for Kit, he comes home from work and then we work on the house until we are both exhausted. I don't know what I would do without my honey and his muscles. Oh and don't ask me how he got the cut on his forehead, he should know better than to talk back to me, hehe.<br />
<br />
We have much to do in the next three days in preparation for Saturday. We have the front patio to clear off yet, clearing out all the closets which only have a few things left in them, packaging up a couple big packages to go to my daughter, taking out the trash, giving away the last few items we are not taking with us, folding up our neighbor's tables and taking them back to them, cleaning out the last food items in our pantry, cleaning up the laundry room, and last but not least sweeping out the garage.<br />
<br />
I miss picking up my camera these last few days, I think it may be getting dusty. My time with my precious will come and then I will deluge you all in photos.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

The countdown is now at 6 days. It is Sunday night and and Kat and I are winding down after a dizzying weekend of accomplishments. It is amazing to me how much a couple can collect during 27 years of marriage and how much work it is to get rid of it.<br />
<br />
Tomorrow, we are closing on the selling of our stick built house and will be moving out at this coming weekend. The weather finally cooperated. The last few weekends were complete washouts, so we could not get to clearing out the back yard, which so desperately needed it. It would have been preferable to work on that over a few weekends, but it wasn't meant to be. So, we are now up against the deadline, but that seems to be when we get truly motivated and get the work done. Even if it meant working 18 hour days to get it done. We also had to get the 2 cats to the airport Saturday morning for their flight to Seattle. So, here is how or weekend went:<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; border: 0px; color: black; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px 0px 0.714285em; orphans: auto; padding: 0px; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<b>Saturday</b></div>
<ul style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; border: 0px; color: black; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 1.428571em; list-style-position: outside; margin: -0.428571em 0px 0.714285em 2em; orphans: auto; padding: 0px; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Took the cats to the airport to fly to our daughter and husband in Seattle</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">2 truckloads to Goodwill</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Emptied food storage. We had a full walk-in pantry. Tossing anything close to out of date and distributing the other to charity. This was a 4 hour chore.</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Completely emptied the kitchen cabinets </li>
</ul>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; border: 0px; color: black; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; orphans: auto; padding: 0px; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<b>Sunday</b></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; border: 0px; color: black; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; orphans: auto; padding: 0px; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<ul style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; list-style-position: outside; margin: 0.2857em 0px 0.714285em 2em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Cleared backyard (we formerly had chickens and rabbits and associated equipment) -5 hours</li>

<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
We still had a considerable amount of useful stuff to get rid of. Kat put a "free" add on Facebook and Craigslist. The response was overwhelming. In a few hours we gave away:</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
<br data-mce-bogus="1" /></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
<ul style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; list-style-position: outside; margin: 0.2857em 0px 0.714285em 2em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">A worn, but comfortable couch (it only weighed about 4 million pounds)</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">A microwave and cart</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">5 full tubs of books</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Book shelves</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Gas grill</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Dishes, coat racks, pots and pans</li>
<li style="border: 0px; line-height: 1.428571em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Clothes, sheets and other miscellaneous items</li>
</ul>
I have to be honest, when Kat gets going and in the mode, I cannot keep up with her. She puts it in another gear and leaves me in the dust. She does a good job of keeping me on track as I tend to get distracted.<br />
<br />
So, now it is after 10 PM on Sunday. I am using this time to write down my thoughts and wind down. We still have too much to do, but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel to new adventures, that is. It is going to be such a relief to shake of the burden of our house and all of the stuff that has held us down.<br />
<br />
It is interesting that when we talk to people and tell them why we are getting rid of everything, they do not think we are crazy. People are taking notice and it is getting their wheels spinning. Could it be that we are spawning a new revolution? We may be bringing a barrage of new explorers in our coat tails. I think that would be fine. I am of the opinion that our possessions weigh us down and prevent us from really enjoying life.<br />
<br />
Last night, after working all day and into the evening, Kat and I took 45 minutes to walk the dogs in the neighborhood and watched some of our neighbors toiling and working on their immaculate lawns and gardens . We discussed how we spend 40 hours a week working to pay our mortgage, car note, cable, utilities, smart phones, etc. and then dedicate our weekends to prettying up our yards, several hours a week cleaning the inside of our homes and hope to catch a few moments of time for ourselves. That was us, too.<br />
<br />
We are about to move out of that cycle into a new cycle of attempting to enjoy each day first, even if it means having less material items. But, the path to get there is not easy, as we have found.<br />
<br />
Thanks for taking a few moments to read my rambling.<br />
<br />
Until next time - Kit</div>

Misty was adopted about 12 years ago and she is now 14. I was looking for our lost dog at the time and made a trip to the pound. Misty was in with the dogs, a little white kitty sitting off in a cage all by herself and she was meowing like crazy. I instantly was drawn in by her pretty blue eyes and her sad cry for help. I asked if I could adopt her and they told me I would have to wait three days and so I went back bright and early on the third day to rescue her.She has been a big part of our family ever since. We found out she was deaf at her first checkup with our vet. We have almost lost her a couple of times, once she got lost under our house and my husband had to climb under the house to get her. The second was a house fire we had and after throwing her out, she had gone back in unbeknownst to me. A fireman brought her out and she was barely breathing, so this great big fireman gave my tiny kitty oxygen. She was alright after a few minutes and breathing on her own.<br />
<br />
Hank we believe is around six years old. My daughter and I decided to go looking for another kitty for her. When Josalyn first laid eyes on Hank, he reached out of the cage at her and drew us in with his big orange eyes. Hank is a strange cat, he will jump from the floor into Josalyn's arms and sometimes into mine. He is a very loving cat and will curl up on our laps, even if we don't want him to. He is a persistent little booger. Hank is also quite a little hunter, he has brought me live bats, toads, frogs, birds, shrews, and some dead critters too, most recently I found a dead chipmunk. Our neighbors said that their pond used to be full of frogs, but now the population has dwindled.<br />
<br />
With this move into our RV, I had to make the hard decision to give the cats to my daughter. My daughter is eager to get them and have them to cuddle on. The reason we made this decision is because it wouldn't be fair to the cats to put them in such a confined small space and Hank would surely get out. We would have to worry for his safety and to be honest there's not enough space for a cat box in our cabin. Alex, my sweet son in law is in for a lot of fun, Misty can be quite challenging at times. Alex would do anything for Josalyn though. I just hope that Alex will still talk to me after he gets the cats. May the force be with you dear son, you will need it.<br />
<br />
I will miss the cats, but don't think that my honey will. I think he is secretly smiling behind my back. Kit is not as enamored with the cats as I am. This is probably the hardest part of our move for me, I will miss my "sweet" cats.<br />
